Our Earth Day, Own It!

“Catch! calls the Once-ler. He lets something fall. It’s a Truffula Seed. It’s the last one of all! You’re in charge of the last of the Truffula Seeds. And Truffula Trees are what everyone needs. Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care. Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air. Grow a forest. Protect it from axes that hack. Then the Lorax and all of his friends may come back.”  ― Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

EARTH DAY

IS…
…an internationally observed holiday…
…a holiday that helps endorse environmental (and future survival) awareness…
…a peaceful activity-filled day first suggested in 1969 by John McConnell…
…a famous U.S. celebration, its most well-known were in 1970, 1990, and 2000…
…associated with Arbor Day…
…showing us all what we should do to help life keep going longer…
…a time to thank everybody’s favorite planet…
…a special day to give our blue marble a great big hug…
…well, a day for everyone!

ISN’T

…only for hippies
…just for the ultra crazy conservationists…
… a day to turn on all our lights or chemical fertilize our lawns and dump poison CO2 into the atmosphere…
…to teach kids how awful using electricity is, cause for some vital purposes, we need it…
…a time to be ignored…
Also, last I checked, we only have 1 Earth. Please, please, please, PLEASE make sure we don’t lose the only one we’ve got! Remember, the Earth is a big ball of rock. It’s us we need to save.

At the end of the day, we can talk and write all we want, but action speaks far louder than words. Carbon Dioxide levels are increasing at a rate so steep, that the graph line looks more like a wall than a staircase. Individually, we can’t fix it all, but there are some things we do to help. Carpooling, turning the air conditioning off when we’re not home, and even turning off lights when we leave a rooms can all help (just don’t tell my Mom I said that). Heck, plant that arbor day tree that some kids are given at school. When we were researching, we found a website about A Billion Acts of Green. The link is below, and it’s totally worth a look

Great post and wonderful photos. I am particularly partial to the sunflowers–to me they just represent good ole’ country values and beauty. But the variety of the photos demonstrates the huge diversity of the earth we inhabit, and points out our responsibility to protect all of it.
